The Salem Fire Protection District protects approximately 12,000 residents and nearly 125 square miles in the heart of Marion County, Illinois.

The Fire District is a combination department, meaning we have both career and paid on call firefighters.  The four career firefighters fill the position as engineers and they man the station on a 24 hour basis.  The Paid-on-call members consist of four Chief officers, a District Fire Marshal, five company Lieutenants and thirty Firefighters.

Many of the departments firefighters have, or are in the process of obtaining or completing, the Illinois Basic Firefighter certification.  The district also has a number of certified instructors allowing for these classes to be presented in house.

Many members have been certified in Incident Command, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Tech A & B, Fire Apparatus Engineer, Fire Service Vehicle Operations and Technical Rescue Awareness.

All firefighters are from the Salem Area and come from various occupations just like you. They are parents, business owners, teachers, health care providers, law enforcement and many other occupations. This "Elite Team" is here to help you when you need it.
